Today, Rob Awalt is a successful businessman that for the last 14 years has been the President of Premier Reverse Closings, a National title & settlement company. PRC has been voted as the best in their industry in back to back years by NRMLA and its members.
Twenty-five years ago, fresh out of college, Awalt embarked on a slightly different career path, one that sports fans can only dream about. The St. Louis Cardinals made him the first tight end selected in the 1987 NFL draft, the 62nd pick. A 6’5”, 248-lb tight end from San Diego State, Awalt played from 1987-1994 for the Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills. Among his accomplishments, he was the NFL rookie of the Year and played in Super Bowls 27 & 28.
While he is proud of his past career, Awalt prefers to focus on the future…..a future that took a major turn in June of 2012 when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. “My approach was fairly simple…compartmentalize it, face it, beat it and move on”. We also decided to do it as discretely as possible. With a small, amazing support team of friends and physicians, we went about what needed to be done. And who’s kidding who…. my wife was in charge! I just showed up when and where she told me too….and as usual, she was right.
Thank you for being a critical part of ACS and their battle to beat cancer, I’m humbled to be their survivor honoree and Honorary Chair of this year’s event.
